I passed through Detroit’s airport the other day. It wasn’t crowded. The airport has a nice sound and light show in the tunnel between concourses and the slowest food services I’ve found in an airport. Where were all the Summer travelers?

They may be camping!

More to the point, I’ve read an article in The Detroit News titled, “Tent sales pop up with gas prices“.

The camping world may benefit from high gas prices which limit vacation travel. One nice thing about family camping is that it offers family members opportunities to reconnect to each other without the interrupting hassles of daily life and the distractions of modern travel.

There’s little in life as satisfying as sitting beside a warm campfire with a hot cup of coffee on a cool morning and catching that first whiff of freshly filleted fish sizzling in an iron skillet … especially if they were just caught before breakfast. And giggling in a tent with your children while listening to crickets chirp and frogs croak and watching fireflies in a meadow is a great way to spend an evening.

Camping is an excellent way to spend an affordable vacation without spending too much on a vacation!
