How’s Your Credit?

It’s a new year which makes it a great time to get a free credit report from AnnualCreditReport.com

AnnualCreditReport.com is the only site created by the credit reporting bureaus to comply with the Federal FACTA Law (Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003). The major credit reporting agencies are required to give consumers a free credit report once each 12 months.

Here’s a great idea for getting a free credit report every 4 months. Because there are three credit reporting agencies (Experian, TransUnion and Equifax) you can spread your requests out at 4 month intervals. For example, visit AnnualCreditReport.com in January and ask for your Experian report. Then four months later in May revisit AnnualCreditReport.com and ask for your TransUnion report. Finally, September, visit and request your Equifax report. By spreading your requests out throughout the year, you can monitor your credit more frequently.

Remember, though, the reports from the three different agencies may be different. As important as monitoring your credit is, it’s also important that you respond to errors in the reports. And chances are good you’ll find errors. Each of the credit bureaus offers instructions about how to challenge incorrect information in your credit report.

So, when you wonder about your credit, visit AnnualCreditReport.com and check it out. It’s free!
